Inside Scoop: Annual Meeting and Celebration at Eastern State Penitentiary

This year the Museum Council celebrated its 85th anniversary!

Attendees this year received a warm welcome from Dr. Kery Sautner (pictured on the left), president and Chief Executive Officer of Eastern State Penitentiary (ESP). Dr. Sauter admired the Museum Council's long-standing reputation as a network and support system for Philadelphia's museum professionals. She spoke about the work ESP is doing in interpretation around mass incarceration and the penal system through different programs and exhibits.

Additionally, attendees heard from the President of the Museum Council, Amanda Lampel. They were caught up on the latest Museum Council news, including the sendoff of two of our longest-standing Board Members: Vice President, Allison Krisch, and Programming Chair, Allison Boyle, who have been active in the Museum Council for the past ten years. Amanda also recognized and thanked long-standing member Eileen Magee for her decades of dedication to the Museum Council, particularly her work with the Programming Committee.

The Museum Council also announced incoming members to the Board, including the new Vice President Alex Palma who previously served as an At-Large Member for several years. It was also announced that the recipient of the 2024 Summer Internship Grant is Sarah Ulrich, who is working as the Conservation and Preservation Intern at the Historical Society of Pennsylvania.
