We are looking forward to seeing you at our next event!

Behind-the-Scenes at The Athenaeum
$15.00

Join the Museum Council as we explore the Athenaeum of Philadelphia, a subscription library that began in 1814 and continues to foster research, learning, and conservation as a museum.

Its 1874 Italianite Revival Style building is a National Historic Landmark, and one of the first Philadelphia buildings made of brownstone. Their current exhibition, “Lost Creeks of Philadelphia: Burying the Streams, Building the City” looks at how the city’s surface streams have been channeled into integral underground sewers over two centuries through maps, drawings, paintings, and photographs.

Address: The Athenaeum of Philadelphia, 219 S 6th St. Philadelphia, PA 19106

Accessibility: The Athenaeum has several steps at the front entrance. Visitors with access needs can enter the Athenaeum by a ramp at the rear of the building. There is an intercom to contact the receptionist at the top of the ramp.
