What skills have been most helpful to you in your career?

Writing! For my undergrad, I got a B.A. in Classics and Anthropology. I graduated at the height of the recession in 2008 and couldn't get a job in a museum (which is when I initially joined this association, to network and job search). I ended up with a job in marketing where someone made the connection for me between Anthropology (study of people) and marketing (need to know people to market to them). All of the 30-page research papers I wrote for my Classics & Anthro classes have helped me immensely in my career in marketing in financial services.

What values are you committed to? How have they changed since you started your career?

Ethics - as a marketer in financial services, I have to ensure all marketing assets adhere to federal, state, and local laws.

What have you read lately?

Remarkably Bright Creatures, Demon Copperhead, Atomic Habits. Highly recommend!

Why did you join the Museum Council?

I initially joined after I graduated college to network and job search. I stayed even though my career took a different path so I could stay connected to the museum world. I envision becoming a museum volunteer when I retire.

Why and in what ways have you continued to be part of the Museum Council community?

I LOVE going to the museum meet-ups. I joined the Membership Committee to help put my marketing intel towards helping grow the Museum Council.

What have you learned that you can share with aspiring/emerging museum professionals?

Sometimes your career plan takes a lot of twists and turns. Just enjoy the ride and go with the flow, and even if you don't stay in the museum world as a career, there are lots of ways to still stay connected to it.

What are you excited about right now?

Reading. Instilling a love for history and museums into my three kids. And summer!
