The Inside Scoop: Museum Council’s Annual Meeting & Celebration
This week, Museum Council of Greater Philadelphia presents its biggest event of the year—our Annual Meeting & Celebration, hosted this Thursday, June 8 at Freeman’s Auction House in Center City. Whether you’re a longtime member of Museum Council, or if you’ve just heard about us and want to find out more, this event is the perfect opportunity to learn about our organization, and to meet the working professionals behind Philadelphia’s thriving cultural scene.
Attendees at this year’s Annual Meeting & Celebration will hear from staff at The Natural History Museum in New York, a mobile and pop-up museum that highlights the sociopolitical forces that shape nature yet are excluded from traditional natural history museums. Their staff will speak about how collaborations with scientists and local communities can make museums more relevant in a time of profound environmental and social change. Additionally, guests will get caught up on the latest Museum Council news from members of our Board of Directors, who will share updates on recent initiatives, and talk about what’s in store for 2018 and beyond.
The event will be held this year at Freeman’s—America’s oldest auction house—located in a beautiful space at 1808-1810 Chestnut Street in Center City. For those who want to get the most out of the evening, a VIP tour will be offered, led by David Weiss, Senior Vice President, and head of the European Art & Old Masters department. Mr. Weiss will take guests on a tour of the upcoming auction European Art & Old Master on display. This tour requires an additional fee.

So what’s so special about Museum Council’s Annual Meeting & Celebration? What makes it one of the most memorable programs of our calendar year, every single year? Here’s what some of our members had to say about their past experiences at this lively annual event.
“Museum Council’s Annual Meeting is always a great event and a chance to connect with colleagues past and present. Each year, it’s an opportunity to hear from a nationally-recognized speaker who I would not otherwise have the chance to interact with. The $35 ticket price for members is affordable for food, drinks, and after-hours access to one of our city’s cultural organizations.”
–Jamie Hughes, Assistant Director of Development, Fleisher Art Memorial
