Volunteer Day 9/5/26: Old City Remembers

Volunteer Day 9/5/26: Old City Remembers

$0.00

Following a prolonged legal battle between the City of Philadelphia and the Trump Administration, the exhibit at the President’s House on Independence Mall was dismantled and replaced overnight on July 14, 2026. We bear witness to the history of slavery in our nation, in the city of Philadelphia, and on this site. With the removal of the informational panels the responsibility to tell this story falls to us: neighbors, concerned citizens, and those who are not afraid of the complexity of history.

In collaboration with Old City Remembers, a grassroots effort where volunteers take shifts reading aloud the text and sharing flyers about the original panels, Museum Council is organizing a Volunteer Day on Saturday, September 5 between 9 am - 5 pm to help share accurate historical information to visitors on Labor Day Weekend.

If you are interested in registering to volunteer please email our Programming Chair, Bailey Gamberg, at events@philamuseumcouncil.org for more information.

We remember the nine enslaved at the President’s House: Ona Judge, Hercules, Moll, Austin, Richmond, Giles, Paris, Christopher Sheels, and Joe
