A Message from Museum Council
As communities across the United States struggle to heal from an international pandemic and the repercussions of our continuing legacy of systemic racism, we who work at museums find ourselves with much to reflect upon. Museums are accountable to the public trust. As part of that covenant, we must acknowledge the role that many of our museums have historically played in perpetuating inequality and pledge that, moving forward, we will embrace equity and inclusiveness in all aspects of our organizations, from our spaces and administration to our staffing, exhibitions, and programs. The Museum Council of Greater Philadelphia deplores the centuries of pain that white supremacy has inflicted on our nation, condemns the killings of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and countless others, and renews its commitment to racial justice in the museum field and in civil society.
To get involved in fighting these injustices, here are several resources to learn more, donate, or educate.
