Museum Council of Greater Philadelphia Internship Grant

The Museum Council of Greater Philadelphia is committed to supporting Emerging Museum Professionals (EMPs) as they begin their museum careers. We believe that internships are a critical part of career development. Unpaid internships can create a financial barrier that disproportionately affects BIPOC and lower-income individuals from entering the museum field. Museum Council of Greater Philadelphia believes that paid internship opportunities are a key part of diversifying the museum workforce. We recognize that many museums do not possess the financial resources needed in order to provide these opportunities. With this in mind, the Museum Council of Greater Philadelphia has created a grant opportunity for one individual to offset the burden from individual institutions while providing funding directly to the intern.

Eligibility

• Current undergraduate and graduate students, recent college graduates, or adults pursuing a career in museums or museum-adjacent fields are eligible to apply. You must be 18+ to apply. Current high school students are not eligible for this funding opportunity.

• Must have a letter of acceptance for a summer internship at a museum or historic site within the geographic boundaries served by the Museum Council of Greater Philadelphia:

  • Philadelphia, Bucks, Montgomery, Chester, or Delaware County in Pennsylvania,

  • Mercer, Burlington, Camden, Gloucester, Salem County in New Jersey,or New Castle or Kent County in Delaware.

• The museum or historic site must have at least one staff member (does not have to be the intern supervisor) who is a member of the Museum Council of Greater Philadelphia.

Submit the following materials to apply:

• Completed application form

• Internship letter of acceptance on official letterhead including contact information for internship supervisor

Award Disbursement

Selected applicants will be notified by April 30, 2024. Awards will be made in two

disbursements of $1,125 paid directly to the applicant on June 1 and July 15, 2024.
