Meet Vanessa Chen - Internship Grant Awardee
Museum Council of Greater Philadelphia is pleased to announce our awardee for our Summer Internship Grant! Vanessa is from Taipei, Taiwan, and is now based in Washington, D.C. This summer she will be working for Historic Germantown, as their curatorial & community engagement intern.
Vanessa is excited to help at Historic Germantown’s Juneteenth event. “As a person of color, I aspire to learn more about African American history and discover the overlaps between Black and Asian history in the U.S. I look forward to hearing different stories from different people and creating allyship between our diverse communities.”
When asked what first got them into Museums Vanessa stated, “I have had the privilege to visit different museums in Taiwan and abroad with my family ever since I was little. Museums have always been a safe place for me to learn and bond with my family and like-minded friends. However, as I grow older, I understand that not everyone has equal access to these amazing resources. I hope that through public events and outreach, we are able to create a more inclusive learning environment for the society.”
Through this internship, she hopes to learn how to use exhibitions and programs to communicate challenging social concepts to the public and become an organizer that brings people together.
